Keyed Alike (KA) - This option provides "same key" convenience and eliminates the need for multiple keys where numerous padlocks are used. All padlocks in the set are opened by the same key.

KA in the product number (ie 3KA) designates that the products are Keyed Alike. In some cases, the customer can select a key code for the KA locks.

Master Keyed (MK) - In a Master Keyed System, a master key opens all the locks in the system although each lock also has its own unique key. This permits organizing master key systems along departmental or other functional lines to allow supervisory or emergency access.

MK in the product number designates that the products will be Master Keyed.

If the customer is adding on to an existing MK system, please specify the master key code.

Design the proper Master Keyed System for your needs.

Optional Shackle Lengths - Many Master Lock padlocks are available with extra long or short shackles to provide sufficient reach to lock around the application. The shackle length is measured from the top of the lock body to the inside of the shackle and is represented in the product charts by the text Vertical Shackle Clearance Dimension "B". The standard length varies by product and the optional lengths are designated in the product number: ie 3LF. Some common lengths and designations are:

  • LS 3/4" (19mm)
  • LF 1-1/2" - 1-9/16" (38mm - 40mm)
  • LH 2" (51mm)
  • LJ 2-3/8"- 2-1/2" (60mm - 64mm)
  • LT 3" (76mm)
  • LN 5-3/8"- 5-3/4" (14cm - 15cm)

Rekeyable Padlocks - The cylinder in rekeyable padlocks can be removed in order to (a) change the pinning or (b) replace the original cylinder with a new one, restoring security quickly and economically. This is ideal for situations where keys are lost or stolen.

Products with this option can be identified by "rekeyable" in the item description. Rekeyable padlocks are available Keyed Different, Keyed Alike, or Master Keyed.

Interchangeable Core Locks - These padlocks and door looks provide an instant security solution because they do not require disassembly to remove the core (cylinder). The control key fits into the padlock just like the user key, but actuates the interchangeable core retaining mechanism. This allows the removal and replacement of the core (cylinder). Interchangeable cores (IC) can be used in both padlocks and door locks for facility-wide security systems.

These products have unique product numbers and can be identified by "Interchangeable Core" in the item description. IC products are available Keyed Different, Keyed Alike, Master Keyed.

Door Key Compatible Padlocks - These padlocks extend a facility's existing door lock system to padlocks so that the same key can open both door locks and padlocks.

These products have unique product numbers and can be identified by "Door Key Compatible" in the item description. Door Key Compatible products are available Keyed Different, Keyed Alike, or Master Keyed.

Patent Pending Key Control - A new product known as the ML® System is available through certain locksmith dealers. Key blank distribution is highly controlled for the four levels of key control being offered. Contact your local locksmith to see if he is participating in this program. More details on this program can be found here.

Non-Removable Key (NR) - The key cannot be removed from the padlock when the lock is open. This helps prevent users from accidentally leaving the padlock in the open position. This feature is only available in selected padlocks with "NR" in their description.
